Why I built OPENSPACE

OPENSPACE is four off-grid stays near Big Bend, designed and built by an engineer who wanted to share this place.

I'm Don Biggers, a civil engineer, builder and founder of SQUARED, a design-build company. After years in construction, engineering and real estate, I wanted to build something of my own: small, well-made stays that show people the desert the way I first saw it. Quiet, wide open and truly dark at night.

I designed and built every unit through SQUARED: a container home and three A-frame cabins, all running on solar power. Building off-grid out here meant solving for heat, wind, water and distance. Those details are why the stays are comfortable.

It took a lot of patience to get here. Come hike the park, shoot the night sky, or sit outside and do nothing. We'll have the place ready.
